The antioxidant activity of the ethanolic, ethyl acetate and total alkaloid extracts of the wood of D. vallicola J.F. Macbr., is evaluated against the free radical scavenging capacity 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzthiazolin-6-ammoniumsulfonate) (ABTS), and they are identified two alkaloids for the first time in this species. The fraction of total alkaloids obtained from the crude ethanolic extract was fractionated by successive column chromatography, using mobile phases of dichloromethane (DCM)/methanol (MeOH) from 99: 1 to 90:10, which subsequently led to the identification of the alkaloids with an oxoaporphine nucleus, liriodenine (1) and lanuginosine (2), using mono- and two-dimensional NMR techniques. On the other hand, it was determined that all the extracts had antioxidant activity against the two radicals used, the EtOH extract being the most effective against the ABTS radical (IC50 = 7.19 μM) and the AcOEt extract against the DPPH radical (IC50 = 12.79 μM). The results obtained in this study allow us to consider this plant as a promising source of chemical components with potential antioxidant activity.
