Structures and spatial processes of the municipality of Monteria in its rural context

Estructuras y procesos espaciales del municipio de Montería en su contexto rural

Abstract

This article shows part of the results of the research work called “Spatial and Functional Organization of the Rural Area of ​​the Municipality of Montería, Department of Córdoba, Colombia: Bases for the Planning of the Rural Space (Corregimental). In such a way, it aims to determine the spatial structures and processes that affect the configuration and spatial distribution of rural settlements. Theoretically and methodologically supported from the spatial approach in geography, through Location Theory and Graphs, through the deductive-analytical and explanatory method. The municipality of Montería in its rural context reflects strong spatial imbalances as a result of the high population, economic, administrative and political concentration around the municipal seat, generating a low level of development in the rest of the rural settlements distributed in a dispersed manner, with population sizes very small and isolated over a large area of ​​territory, limited mainly by spatial structures of location and the distance between rural settlements, caused mainly by physical, historical, economic, social and political elements that reveal the lack of territorial cohesion of the rural space in the municipality of Montería.
