Violence is recognized as a Public Health problem. As defined by the WHO and PAHO, it is one of the main factors that contribute to death, disease, and disability. Objective. To determine the type of family violence present in low-achieving high school students from an academic institution in Monteria, 2018. Materials and methods. Descriptive, cross-sectional, with a quantitative approach, it is clarified that the study is qualitative in nature, but it is implemented in the quantitative methodology. The sample was 45 students between 14 and 18 years old, who presented low academic performance. Results. In the types of violence that most students present, we can observe that physical violence and psychological violence obtaining a percentage of 45% and 33% respectively. Conclusions. A significant percentage of the studied population presented physical and psychological violence, characterized by beatings and insults, being necessary interventions at the family level where principles and values ​​are promoted, Likewise, it was identified that the majority, were in eighth and ninth grade and had low academic performance
