Objective: To identify the effectiveness of music therapy interventions on the prevention of delirium in individuals with internal risk factors in the ICU, in favor of the modulation of vital signs, the lower requirement for Invasive Mechanical Ventilation and the well-being of the participants. Methods: This research is a pre-experimental study, of a qualitative nature, characterized by the application of tests for delirium pre and post-intervention (CAM-ICU and sound-musical equivalents), the recording of vital signs before and after the session, the determination of the need for VMI, the assessment of 6 categories of analysis applicable to each session, the collection of personal perceptions about the therapy and the assessment of sound-musical products. Results: None of the 7 participants exposed to the intervention presented delirium (one of them in a post-delirium state), 6 of them did not require IMV (except for one individual who decided to withdraw from the study with subsequent need for IMV) and 3 sound-musical products were generated which exposed the search and achievement of well-being during the sessions. Conclusion: From this strategy and its varied application in quantity, frequency, and duration, it is concluded that it favors the prevention of delirium in the ICU, indirectly reduces the need for IMV and contributes positively to the well-being of the participants; However, there is still a lack of consensus regarding the dosage of the therapy and there is a need for more studies with methodological rigor and their reproduction in other clinical settings.
