The use of social networks in today's society has become an instrument that has many positive and negative connotations, depending on how they are used. It is no secret that social networks are a means of mass communication, providing information of all kinds. It is the users' task to classify it in a certain way depending on their preferences, and in a certain way the artificial intelligence algorithm implemented in these platforms help a lot with this process. Interaction with these platforms can generate advantages and disadvantages in the academic environment. Normally it can be a distracting agent if it is not used appropriately in the classroom or in the time the student uses for the apprehension of knowledge. If we do not look for the usefulness of social networks in educational environments, we will have a lot of distracted young people, such as watching short videos that can consume a lot of time or watching other types of content that takes the student away from their learning purposes. In a way, the teacher must acquire the skills that allow him to take advantage of social networks. This can range from the creation of groups for a particular course, delivery of content through this medium, development of activities that involve cooperation among all individuals, i.e., collaborative work. In this way, good results can be achieved and students can be more active in relation to their training process. Although technology is a means to an end, the end itself is determined depending on the application it is given.
